Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs' offensive woes continued as they shot just 29.5 percent in a 69-47 loss at Delta State Thursday night.
The Bucs (15-5, 3-3 GSC West) started well, building a 7-2 lead early on with a 7-0 burst capped by a
Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) triple with 17:28 remaining in the first half. After DSU (9-10, 3-3) regained the lead, back-to-back threes by
Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) and
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) put the Bucs back in front 18-15 with 9:37 remaining in the first half. The Statesmen scored the last 11 points of the first half to take the lead for good, and the Bucs never came closer than seven points in the second half.
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) paced the Bucs with 11 to go with six rebounds and four assists. Graham scored a career-best 10, while Drake added eight.
Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) grabbed a season-high eight rebounds to go with six points.
Marqueys Brown scored 18 points to lead the Statesmen. Phil Turner scored 14, and Ladarrin Williams added 11.
DSU shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the floor in the second half as they pulled away, and their 58.0 percent (29-of-50) marked the highest allowed by the Bucs this year. DSU's 69 points were also the most the Bucs have allowed in a game this year.
The Bucs were just 29.5 percent (18-of-61) overall and 25.0 percent (8-of-32) from three-point range. The Bucs out-rebounded DSU 35-33, including a 15-3 edge in offensive boards, and they committed nine turnovers to the Statesmen's seven.
The Bucs will try to snap their two-game losing streak Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they host Southern Arkansas.
