Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs moved to 3-0 against nationally-ranked opponents Friday night as they won 1-0 over No. 20 West Florida in their Gulf South Conference opener.
The hard-fought, physical game saw 41 fouls and eight yellow cards, but no scoring until the Bucs (10-3, 1-0 GSC) caught a break in the 70th minute.
Michael Hollier (Lafayette, La./Teurlings HS) made a run on goal, and at the same time, an Argo (7-3-2, 2-1) defender played a ball back to the keeper. Hollier pounced on the opportunity, one-touching a quick shot past UWF keeper Ramon Sealy into the left corner of the net.
From there, the Bucs' defense held, with #Jaime Garcia making six saves to earn the shutout victory. The Bucs won despite being out-shot 11-7, including a 7-1 margin in shots on goal.
The Bucs return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Alabama-Huntsville in another key GSC contest.
