Box Score SEARCY, Ark.—The No. 21 Christian Brothers University Bucs wrapped up the top seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the first time in 10 years Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win at Harding.
The Bucs (13-3, 4-0 GSC) scored the game's first goal in the 30th minute, when
Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) scored his 12th goal of the year on a free kick from 25 yards out. The Bisons (6-10-1, 1-3) answered in the 42nd minute when Ryan Wilhelm headed in a Jona Amssoms free kick. The game remained tied 1-1 until the 75th minute, when the Bucs scored an own goal when a Harding defender tried to head a cross over the end line but put it in the net instead.
From there, the Bucs' defense held strong, only allowing the Bisons one more shot, which
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) stopped for his third save. The Bucs out-shot Harding 18-5 for the game, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.
With the win, the Bucs have clinched at least a share of the GSC regular season crown for the first time since 2001, when the Bucs finished tied with West Florida atop the standings. Since the Bucs have already beaten both West Florida and Alabama-Huntsville, they would hold the tiebreaker and claim the top seed if they finished in a tie for the top spot.
The Bucs will attempt to complete their first undefeated GSC campaign since joining the conference in 1996 when they celebrate Senior Day with a 3 p.m. game against Delta State Saturday at Signaigo Field.
