Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.—The No. 9 Christian Brothers University Bucs scored once in each half as they advanced to the Gulf South Conference championship game for the second consecutive year with a 2-1 win Friday night over Harding.
The Bucs (15-3) struck first in the 10th minute, when Harding was called for a handball in the box, setting up a
Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) penalty kick that put the Bucs in front. The Bisons (6-11-2) equalized in the 37th minute when Cole Walker scored off assists from Ryan Wilhelm and Cameron Rose.
The score remained level until the 55th minute, when
Yannick Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College) played a throughball ahead to
Matt Derise (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More HS), whose sliding shot rolled through the bottom of the net for the eventual game-winner.
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) made four saves to earn the victory for the Bucs. The Bucs out-shot Harding 16-11 for the game, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.
The Bucs meet West Florida in the finals for the second straight season. The Argos advanced to the finals with a 3-2 win over Alabama-Huntsville as UWF's Sean Reynolds scored with 21 seconds left to break the tie. UWF won last year's championship game 2-0.
