Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio, La Salle HS) scored 10 of his career-high 15 points during a 12-0 run midway through the second half to help the Christian Brothers University Bucs take control as they won their fifth straight game, 78-68 at New Orleans Saturday night.
The Bucs (9-2) scored the game's first five points, but the Privateers (9-7) answered with a 13-0 run to take the lead for the remainder of the first half. After two Generra Varmall free throws gave the Privateers a 54-53 lead, their final lead of the night. Casey answered with a three-pointer. Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) led the Bucs with 20 points and seven rebounds to go with five assists and three steals. Warner scored 18 with seven rebounds as he matched his career-high with eight assists. Casey grabbed five rebounds to go with his 15 points, and
Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) scored 10 points with six rebounds.
Lovell Cook led the Privateers with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Rarlensee Nelson added 10 points and five assists. The Bucs shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) overall and 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range while holding UNO to 38.1 percent (24-of-63) overall. The Privateers shot 50 percent (9-of-18) from three-point range. The Bucs were 86.4 percent (19-of-22) at the free throw line. UNO out-rebounded the Bucs 38-35, including a 15-6 edge in offensive boards, and each team committed eight turnovers.
The Bucs open GSC play on the road next weekend, visiting West Florida Thursday night and Valdosta State Saturday night, with both games set for 7 p.m. The Bucs return home Thursday night, Jan. 12, against West Alabama at 7 p.m.
