Bucs Celebrate Homecoming With Win Over HSU

Harry Green scored a career-best 20 points as the Bucs rolled to a 62-49 win over Henderson State Saturday afternoon for Homecoming.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs celebrated Homecoming in style as they cruised to a 62-49 win over Henderson State Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Bucs (17-6, 5-4 GSC West) never trailed, building an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes and never allowing the Reddies (6-15, 1-8) closer than six points again.

The Reddies pulled within a 38-31 margin on a Josh French free throw with 16:59 remaining.  After a scoring drought of over five minutes, Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) sparked what would be a game-clinching 22-9 run with two free throws followed by a three-pointer.  He finished with 11 of his career-high 20 points during the run, which Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) and Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) capped with back-to-back threes, lifting the Bucs to a 60-40 lead with 6:15 remaining.

Green went 7-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, on his way to 20, eclipsing his previous career-best of 18 against Harding last month.  Green also grabbed six rebounds, matching his career-high.  Drake scored 16 points with five rebounds and three blocks, and Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) added 10 points with nine rebounds and six assists.

KaJuan Watson paced the Reddies with 12 points, while French scored 11 with nine rebounds.

The Bucs turned in their second perfect free throw game of the season, making all 17 free throws.  The Bucs were 5-of-5 at Alabama-Huntsville in November.  The 17-for-17 effort was the most in school history, eclipsing the 1979-80 team's 16-for-16 effort against Thomas More.

The free throws and 40.9 percent (9-of-22) three-point shooting helped offset a poor night from the field overall, as the Bucs shot 38.3 percent (18-of-47).  HSU was 40.4 percent (21-of-52) overall, but they were 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc and just 30.8 percent (4-of-13) at the charity stripe.  Each team grabbed 33 rebounds, and the Bucs forced 11 turnovers while committing 10.

The Bucs hit the road Monday night to visit Arkansas Tech in the game that was rescheduled from Thursday after this week's snowstorm.  Their next home game is Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist.
