Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Arkansas-Monticello outscored the Christian Brothers University Bucs 12-3 over the final 4:03 on their way to a 72-59 win, tying both teams at .500 in Gulf South Conference West Division play.
After UAM (12-8, 4-4 GSC West) built their lead to a game-high 10 points when an LA Farmer jumper with 9:36 remaining put them ahead 55-45. The Bucs (16-6, 4-4) cut the lead back to 55-51 after three straight layups by
Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) with 6:25 remaining. They cut the lead back to four points two more times, last at 60-56, but the Boll Weevils stretched it back out down the stretch, only allowing the Bucs one more basket in the final five minutes.
Drake led the Bucs with 16 points and 13 rebounds, his second straight double-double.
Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) added 14 points and five assists, while the freshman guard tandem of
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) and
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored nine points each.
Farmer and Jerrell Boswell led the Boll Weevils with 19 points each. Farmer pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Ricardo Hall scored 15, and Dwayne Bingham added 13 off the bench.
The Bucs shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the floor, including 32 percent (8-of-25) from beyond the arc. UAM was 51.1 percent (23-of-45) overall and 50 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range. The Weevils out-rebounded CBU 32-25. The Bucs forced nine turnovers while committing six.
The Bucs have a week off before visiting No. 15 Arkansas Tech next Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, Feb. 12, as they host Henderson State for Homecoming at 4 p.m.
