No. 15 Bucs Win Eighth Straight, 69-54

Zack Warner scored 23 points as the No. 15 Bucs rolled past West Alabama 69-54 Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The No. 15 Christian Brothers University Bucs used 23 points from senior forward Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo., Clayton HS) to pull away from visiting West Alabama for a 69-54 win Thursday night, extending their winning streak to eight games.

The Bucs (12-2, 3-0 GSC) used three three-pointers in two and a half minutes late in the first half for an 11-1 burst that put them in front for good.  Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) started the run with a triple, then Warner followed with a layup and a three-pointer.  Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) buried another triple to cap the run, extending the Bucs' lead to 28-19.  UWA (3-11, 1-2) never came closer than five points again.

After the Bucs had extended their lead to 53-38 on a bucket from Casey, the Tigers answered with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 53-47 with 6:56 remaining.  Casey picked the pocket of Jared Woolfolk for a steal and fastbreak layup, and four straight Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) three-pointers extended the lead to 67-49 with 1:19 remaining.

Warner was 10-of-15 from the floor as he recorded his second-highest point total of the season.  He also grabbed seven rebounds with three assists.  Graham scored 12 points in 13 minutes, and Drake added 11 with seven rebounds.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) tacked on nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in 37 minutes, and Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) collected six assists to go with five points.

Steven Samuels led the Tigers with 17 points.  Ryan Fitch scored nine with eight rebounds, and Josh Spears added nine.

The Bucs tied a school record by committing just four turnovers, matching a mark previously set against Henderson State in 2004 and against Williams Baptist in 2009.  The Bucs shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) overall and 32.1 percent (8-of-28) from three-point range.  UWA was 46.2 percent (24-of-52) overall and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from three-point range.  UWA out-rebounded the Bucs 31-28, including a 10-9 edge in offensive rebounds.  The Bucs scored 10 points off the nine turnovers they forced.

The Bucs welcome No. 25 West Georgia to Canale Arena Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the first battle of top-25 teams at Canale Arena since the Bucs faced Harding last season.
