Warner Carries No. 11 Bucs Past UNA, 79-51

Zack Warner scored 27 points with 12 rebounds as the Bucs rolled to a 79-51 win over North Alabama Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University senior forward Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo., Clayton HS) poured in 27 points and 12 rebounds in just 26 minutes to carry the No. 11 Bucs to a 79-51 win over visiting North Alabama Thursday night at Canale Arena.

Warner scored 17 of the first 20 points as the Bucs (14-2, 5-0 GSC) jumped out to a 20-9 lead over the first eight minutes.  The Lions (9-7, 2-3) never came closer than eight points again.  After the Bucs built their lead to 43-22 early in the second half on a Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) three-pointer, the Lions went on an 8-0 run to cut the margin to 43-30 on back-to-back dunks from Theron Jenkins.

The Bucs put it well out of reach shortly after UNA had cut the margin back to 17 points on three Alex Smith free throws with 11:25 remaining.  Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) sparked what would become a 22-2 run when he buried a three-pointer, and he tapped in a Casey miss the next trip down.  By the time the run was over on a Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) triple with 4:51 remaining, the Bucs held a 75-38 advantage.

Warner was 10-of-18 from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line for the game, adding four blocks, three assists, and a season-high 12 rebounds to his 27 points.  Graham scored 11 in 10 minutes off the bench as he was 4-of-4 from the floor, including three three-pointers.  Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) scored 10, while Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds to go with six points and two assists.  McArthy added nine with four assists.

Jenkins led the Lions with 11 points, and Beaumont Beasley added nine.

The Bucs shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) for the game and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from three-point range.  They were 88.9 percent (16-of-18) at the free throw line to UNA's 68.2 percent (15-of-22).  The Bucs held UNA to 25.8 percent (17-of-66) overall and 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from three-point range.  The Bucs out-rebounded UNA 52-37, but UNA grabbed 17 offensive boards to the Bucs' 14.  The Bucs committed 12 turnovers while forcing six.

The Bucs hit the road Sunday afternoon for one of the biggest games in the nation when they take on No. 15 Alabama-Huntsville at 4 p.m.  The Bucs wrap up the first half of the GSC schedule against Delta State Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m.
