No. 15 Chargers Outlast No. 11 Bucs 74-65

Cory McArthy scored 11 points, but No. 15 Alabama-Huntsville topped the No. 11 Bucs 74-65 Sunday afternoon.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—No. 15 Alabama-Huntsville used a 12-0 run over four minutes late in the game to pull away for a 74-65 win over the No. 11 Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon, putting both teams into a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference.

The game was back-and-forth until the final five minutes of the game, with four ties, five lead changes, and no lead of more than nine points for either side.  The Bucs (15-3, 5-1 GSC) closed within a point when a Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triple with 5:59 remaining cut the UAH (14-3, 5-1) lead to 59-58.  From there, the Chargers went on the decisive 12-0 run.  Josh Maggette made a pair of free throws to start the run, and a Zane Campbell three-point play extended the lead to 64-58.  A fastbreak layup from Jaime Smith was followed by a three from Maggette, and two more free throws capped the run, putting the Chargers ahead 71-58 with 1:54 remaining.

Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, and Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) added 16.  Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) scored a dozen points off the bench, making 4-of-5 three-pointers, and Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) added 11.

Campbell scored a game-high 23 points with four blocks for the Chargers, and Maggette recorded the third triple-double in the nation this year with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.  Smith added 10 points.

The Chargers shot 55.6 percent (25-of-45) overall and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range.  The Bucs were 46.9 percent (23-of-49) for the game and 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from beyond the arc.  The Chargers held a commanding 34-17 edge on the boards but committed 14 turnovers to the Bucs' 10.

The Bucs come home Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they host Delta State to conclude the first half of their GSC schedule.
