Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting West Florida wrapped up the top seed in next month's Gulf South Conference tournament with a 2-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Friday night at Signaigo Field.
The Argos (9-2-2, 7-0-2 GSC) struck first in the 33rd minute, when Fernando Silveira scored on a sliding shot after a Jack Salafrio cross. The lead held until halftime, but the Bucs (7-6-1, 5-3-1) tied it back up in the 52nd minute, when
Sean Rutter (Bristol, England/Filton College) scored off a
Ralph Velasco (Rowlett, Texas/Rowlett HS) free kick. But the game would not remain level for long, as Richard Dixon put the Argos on top for good in the 55th minute as he scored after another Salafrio cross.
Neither side could score again the rest of the way, as the Bucs put only one of their four shots the rest of the way on target. For the game, the Bucs out-shot UWF 11-10, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal, but UWF keepers Steven Hermosa and Stuart McCrory combined for five saves to give the argos the victory.
The Bucs return to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., when they host West Alabama for Senior Day.
