Bucs Rally Past Statesmen in Overtime

David Skull scored the game-winner for the Bucs with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime of a 2-1 win at Delta State Sunday afternoon.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored an 87th-minute goal to force overtime, and they scored again with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime to claim a 2-1 Gulf South Conference victory at Delta State Sunday afternoon.

The Statesmen (7-10-1, 4-8 GSC) took the lead early in the second half.  In the 62nd minute, Jack Pilley flicked a Jaxon Lambert throw-in to Daniel Deblaere, who scored from 10 yards out on the left side.  The DSU lead held until the 87-minute mark, when Adamandios Toras (Meitarie, La./Archbishop Rummel HS) put the Bucs (9-7-1, 7-4-1) on the board as he scored when the DSU keeper fumbled away a ball, giving the Bucs extra life and sending the game to overtime.

The Bucs controlled play in the overtime, out-shooting the Statesmen 4-1 in the extra period.  They scored the winner in the 100th minute as David Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College) headed in a long throw-in from Samuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) for the winner.

The Bucs out-shot DSU 20-13 for the game, including a 10-5 lead in shots on goal.

The Bucs return to action Friday morning at 11 a.m. when they take on second-seeded West Alabama in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla.  The Bucs are the third seed, while top seed West Florida will face fourth seed Delta State in the other semifinal at 1:30 p.m.
