Bucs Top Lynx 72-65

Ryan Fleming scored nine points with six assists and five steals in the Bucs' 72-65 win over Rhodes Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs opened the season with a 72-65 win over Rhodes Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

After a back-and-forth first half where neither team led by more than seven points, the Lynx tied the game at 34 early in the second half on a pair of Andrew Galow free throws.

The Bucs (1-0) answered with an 11-0 run and never trailed again.  Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) started the run with a three-pointer, and Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) followed with a free throw and a layup.  McArthy drained another three, and Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) capped the run with a layup to give the Bucs a 45-34 lead with 16:38 remaining in the game.  The Bucs' lead grew to as many as 17 points at 63-46 on a Drake three-point play.  Rhodes answered with a 15-3 run to pull within 66-61 on a Galow triple with a minute remaining, but the Bucs sank six free throws in the final minute to protect the victory.

Drake scored 17 with seven rebounds to lead the Bucs, while Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 15.  McArthy added 11, and Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored nine to go with six assists and five rebounds.

Galow led the Lynx with 17 points and six assists, while Geoff Livsey scored 16.  Michael Gallagher added 14.

The Bucs shot 50 percent (25-of-50) for the game to the Lynx' 44.4 percent (24-of-54).  Rhodes shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range while holding the Bucs to 31.8 percent (7-of-22).  Rhodes out-rebounded the Bucs 31-30, including an 11-9 edge in offensive boards, but the Bucs forced 14 turnovers while committing nine.

The Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they visit Trevecca Nazarene.  Their next home game is Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Williams Baptist.
