Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal, Seeds Academy) posted career-highs of 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bucs to a 74-52 win at LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday night in their final game before the Christmas holidays.
Early on, the Magicians (2-7) built an 11-6 lead, but the Bucs (6-2) responded with a 14-3 run keyed by four three-pointers: three by
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) and one from
Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS). McArthy's third triple gave the Bucs a 20-14 lead with 10:21 remaining in the half.
The Magicians eventually cut the CBU lead to two points, 33-31, early in the second half, but the Bucs answered with nine straight to take a 42-31 lead on a
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) fastbreak layup with 15:53 remaining, and the Magicians never came closer than six again. Sall excelled in the run to put the game away after LOC cut the advantage to 46-40 with 11:26 remaining. First, he knocked down a jumper, then he scored on a layup and a dunk on back to back possessions to push the lead to 62-46 with 6:37 remaining.
Sall scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, shooting 8-of-12 for the game in 21 minutes. McArthy scored 17 with eight rebounds, and Green scored 15 with five assists and four rebounds.
Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) added a career-best of eight points off the bench, combining with Sall to give the Bucs a 26-23 edge in bench points.
Shad O'Garro led the Magicians with 10 points, all in the first half. Lamada Williams tacked on nine.
The Bucs shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) for the game while holding the Magicians to 35.2 percent (19-of-54). CBU out-rebounded the Magicians 32-22, including an 11-7 edge in offensive rebounds, but they committed 11 turnovers to LeMoyne-Owen's nine.
The Bucs return from the Christmas break when they host Harding Sunday afternoon, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m. for their final non-conference tilt of the season.
