No. 11 Bucs Top Statesmen 78-68

Cory McArthy scored 12 points as the No. 11 Bucs won 78-68 at Delta State Saturday night.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.—The No. 11 Christian Brothers University Bucs used a 24-9 run to start the second half to pull away from host Delta State Saturday night in the regular season finale for both schools.

The lead changed hands six times over the game's first 13 minutes, with the Bucs (21-5, 11-3 GSC) taking the lead for good with a 16-6 run capped by back-to-back Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) layups with 2:54 remaining, giving the Bucs a 28-22 lead.

The Statesmen trimmed the lead to 32-31 at halftime on an Aaron Cooper triple, but the Bucs pulled away early after the intermission.  Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) started the run with a triple and a jumper, and by the time the run ended on a Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) three with 10:53 remaining, the Bucs led 56-40.  The Statesmen never came closer than nine points again.

Dennis led the Bucs with 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in 39 minutes.  Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) scored 16 with seven rebounds and three assists, and Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) added 12 with four assists and two steals.

Cooper led the Statesmen with 21, and Cornell Knight scored 12.  Caleb Miskelly and Terry Leake added 11 each.

The Bucs shot 57.1 percent (28-of-49) for the game, including 40 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range.  The Statesmen were 47.4 percent (27-of-57) overall and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from three-point range.  The Bucs were 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the free throw line.  CBU out-rebounded the Statesmen 28-24, and each team committed 10 turnovers.

The Bucs will return to action in the GSC Tournament quarterfinals against No. 7 seed Valdosta State Friday.  Game times will be announced by the GSC tomorrow.
