Hawks Rally Past Bucs 56-49

Pat Graham scored 12 points in the Bucs' 56-49 loss at Shorter Saturday afternoon.
Box Score ROME, Ga.—Host Shorter out-scored the Christian Brothers University Bucs 41-22 over the final 19 minutes Saturday afternoon to spoil what had been a 12-point CBU lead as they claimed a 56-49 win over the Bucs.

The Bucs (8-5, 3-2 GSC) imposed their will in the first half, using a methodical 18-7 run over a 12-minute stretch to open a 25-13 lead on back-to-back Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) three-pointers with 29 seconds remaining in the first half.  After Shorter (10-4, 4-2) answered with a basket to end the half, a Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) layup restored the 12-point CBU lead

After Fleming's layup, the Hawks went on a 14-6 run to pull within four points on a Walter Hill triple with 15:56 remaining in the half.  A 10-2 run later in the half gave them their first lead since 4-2, at 41-40 after a fastbreak layup by Dedric Ware.  After the Bucs regained the lead on a three-point play by Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS), the Hawks answered with 11 straight to take a 52-43 lead with 3:44 remaining.  SIdy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) scored the next six points to pull the Bucs within three points at 52-49 with 1:23 remaining, but the Bucs committed two turnovers and missed a shot on their final three possessions, and Ware made all four of his free throws to seal the victory.

Graham and Hildreth led the Bucs with 12 points each, while Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) grabbed eight rebounds and four steals, both game-highs.

Ware and Anthony Banks led the Hawks with 14 points each.  Hill scored 13, and Kenny Leverette added 12.

The Bucs shot just 31.5 percent (17-of-54) for the game and 23.3 percent (7-of-30) from three-point range to the Hawks' 46.5 percent (20-of-43).  CBU out-rebounded Shorter 35-27, including a 15-4 edge in offensive rebounds, but the Bucs committed 17 turnovers while forcing 14.

The Bucs return home Thursday night at 7 p.m. to host West Georgia.
