Bucs Tame Wolves 64-54

Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs shut out visiting West Georgia for an eight minute stretch of the second half as they went on an 11-0 run to pull away for a 64-54 win Thursday night to move into a tie for third place in the Gulf South Conference standings.

The Bucs (9-5, 4-2 GSC) threatened to pull away in the first half, building a 17-9 lead when a Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) layup capped a 10-0 run with 11:17 remaining in the half.  After tying hte game at halftime, the Wolves (7-7, 4-2) pounded the ball inside to start the second half, scoring their first eight points in the paint to open a 35-31 lead.

The Wolves took their final lead of the game on a Quincy Hill fastbreak layup with 9:58 remaining, giving them a 46-45 cushion.  The Bucs answered quickly on a Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) jumper to regain the lead, and he sank a triple from the right corner on the following possession.  After nearly five scoreless minutes, Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) buried a triple to extend the Bucs' lead to 53-46 with 4:16 remaining.  Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) capped the 11-0 run with three free throws, giving CBU a 56-46 lead with 2:10 remaining, and the Wolves came no closer than seven points again.

Drake scored a game-high 15 points with three assists, and Casey scored 13 with four steals.  Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) added 12.  McArthy scored nine with five assists against no turnovers.

Hill and Sean Boston led the Wolves with 13 points each.

The Bucs shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) for the game while holding the Wolves to 38.2 percent (21-of-55).  The Wolves out-rebounded CBU 35-30, including a 14-5 edge in offensive boards, but they committed 16 turnovers to the Bucs' 12.

The Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they host West Alabama.
