Box Score MEMPHIS—Four Christian Brothers University Bucs scored in double figures as the Bucs rolled past West Alabama 68-49 Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
The Bucs (10-5, 5-2 GSC) took control with a 12-0 first-half run capped by back-to-back
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) three-pointers, giving the Bucs a 16-4 lead with 12:47 remaining in the first half. The Tigers never came closer than nine points again.
The Tigers (6-8, 2-5) used a 9-0 run bridging the halftime break to come within 13 points, but a
Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) triple sparked a 7-0 CBU answer, and the Tigers never seriously threatened again.
Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Bucs, while McArthy and Casey added 11 points each.
Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high six steals, tied for the third-most in a game in school history, one off the record set by Jack Wheeler against Spring Hill in 1977 and equaled by Greg Bates against Union in 1985. McArthy also dished out a career-high nine assists with no turnovers in 37 minutes.
Steven Samuels led the Tigers with 17 points, and Sandy Underwood added 13.
The Bucs shot 49 percent (25-of-51) for the game, including 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from three-point range, while UWA was 38.5 percent (20-of-52) overall. UWA out-rebounded the Bucs 32-26, including a 10-6 edge in offensive rebounds, but the Bucs forced 14 turnovers while committing eight.
The Bucs hit the road next week to wrap up the first half of the GSC schedule, visiting Valdosta State Thursday night at 7 p.m. and West Florida Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Their next home game is set for Saturday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. against Delta State.
