Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored a school-record 66 first-half points as they cruised to a 101-77 win over Williams Baptist Thursday night at Canale Arena.
After a sluggish start left the teams tied at four after three minutes, the Bucs' shooters woke up in a big way.
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) knocked down the first of what would be 13 first-half threes for the Bucs (2-1) to spark a 14-5 run capped by a
Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) layup. Casey knocked down three triples as part of a 16-0 burst in just two and a half minutes that left the Bucs ahead 36-18 with 9:07 remaining in the first half. A 17-0 run late in the half extended the Bucs' lead to 63-30 on a McArthy trey with 1:12 remaining in the half, and
Charlie Oswald (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) capped the half with another trey with eight seconds to play, giving CBU a 66-33 edge at halftime.
The Bucs led by as many as 37 points in the second half before the Eagles closed the game on a 23-10 run to set the final margin.
The Bucs set 21 career-highs in the game. Casey matched his career-high with 27 points and set a new record with seven threes in just eight tries.
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) dished out a career-best 10 assists against just one turnover to go with 16 points. McArthy matched Green's 16 points, and
Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) scored 13 with eight rebounds. Oswald scored 11 off the bench.
James McClain led the Eagles with 23 points and seven rebounds. Chris Price scored 19, E.J. Rucker 16 and Tony Jeffries 10.
The Bucs shot 49.3 percent for the game, including 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from three-point range. The Bucs shot 13-of-22 from three-point range in the first half to take the big lead. The Eagles shot 47.7 percent (31-of-65) for the game, including 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range. Each team grabbed 36 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, and the Bucs forced 18 turnovers while committing 10.
The Bucs return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. as they visit No. 3 Bellarmine. Their next home game is Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Harding.
