Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky.-No. 3 Bellarmine used a 21-6 run over a six-minute stretch midway through the second half as they pulled away to a 74-57 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday night at Knights Hall.
The Knights (2-0) began to take control in the first half, with a 13-2 run giving them a 17-8 edge with 10:51 in the first half after CBU (2-2) had taken an early 6-4 lead.
The Bucs cut the lead to four points several times, last at 36-32 on a
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup. The Knights responded with a 21-6 run, extending their lead to 57-38 on a Jake Thelen layup with 8:15 remaining.
The Bucs cut the lead to 69-57 on a
Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) trey with 1:09 remaining, but BU stretched the final margin out with three free throws and a dunk in the final minute.
Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) led the Bucs with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Green scored 11 with a game-best seven assists.
Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) scored 10, and
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) added 10.
Keisten Jones led Bellarmine with 20 points and eight rebounds, and Thelen scored 18 with six rebounds.
The Knights shot 58 percent (29-of-50) for the game to the Bucs' 43.1 percent (22-of-51). CBU was 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from three-point range to the Knights' 23.1 percent (3-of-13). Bellarmine out-rebounded CBU 33-23, including a 9-8 edge in offensive rebounds, and each team committed 15 turnovers.
The Bucs return home Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host Harding.
