Tigers Drop Bucs 92-63

Drew Hildreth scored a game-high 18 points in the Bucs' 92-63 exhibition loss at Memphis Friday night.
MEMPHIS-Memphis outscored the Christian Brothers University Bucs 45-26 over the final 17 minutes Friday night as they pulled away for a 92-63 win in the only exhibition game of the year for both teams.

The Tigers never trailed, opening the game on an 18-7 run, but the Bucs clawed back into the game with a 14-5 run, drawing within 23-21 on a Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) tip-in with 8:05 remaining in the first half. Memphis out-scored the Bucs 20-10 over the final 6:02 of the first half to take a 47-35 lead at halftime.

Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) pulled the Bucs within 10 points at 49-39 on a dunk with 18:07 remaining, but they would come no closer as Memphis used runs of 5-0 and 10-0 to stretch their lead to 69-47 on a Michael Dixon jumper with 8:33 remaining. Memphis led by as many as 32 points over the final minutes.

Hildreth scored a game-high 18 points, making 8-of-17 field goals including 1-of-5 three-pointers, and he made his only free throw attempt. He also grabbed five rebounds with an assist and a block in 22 minutes. Sall scored nine with eight rebounds in 24 minutes, and Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) added nine with five rebounds, four assists and just two turnovers in 38 minutes against the Memphis press.

Dixon led the Tigers with 18 points and five assists in 20 minutes. Dominic Woodson scored 14 in 18 minutes on perfect 7-of-7 shooting, and Geron Johnson scored 11 with four assists and three steals in 19 minutes. Nick King scored 12 with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Memphis shot 52.1 percent (37-of-71) for the game to the Bucs' 35.5 percent (22-of-62). Both teams struggled from three-point range, with CBU shooting 26.3 percent (5-of-19) to the Tigers' 20 percent (3-of-15). Memphis out-rebounded the Bucs 47-34, including a 15-12 edge in offensive rebounds, and they forced 19 CBU turnovers while committing 12.

The Bucs open the season Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they host Rhodes.
