Chargers Outlast Bucs 81-77

Cory McArthy scored 17 points in the Bucs' 81-77 loss at Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-After each team squandered a 10-point first-half lead, host Alabama-Huntsville held on for an 81-77 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Thursday night at Spragins Hall.

The Bucs (4-4, 0-2 GSC) built their double-digit lead early, making six of their first seven shots to take a 16-6 lead on a Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) free throw with 14:45 remaining in the first half. UAH answered with a 25-5 run, however, taking a 31-21 lead on a Wayne Dedrick trey with 7:43 remaining in the half.

UAH restored its lead to 10 points four times, last at 45-35 before CBU began to rally. The Bucs used a 7-0 burst to tie the game at 56 on a Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) bucket with 9:54 remaining, but UAH regained the lead with a 5-0 burst. But the Bucs would rally again, taking a 63-62 lead with 4:51 remaining when a Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) dunk capped a 7-1 run. The Chargers took the lead for good on a 7-0 run bookended by Dedrick threes, the latter of which gave them a 69-63 lead with 3:30 remaining. The Bucs cut the lead back to two points twice in the final seconds, but they couldn't come closer.

Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) led the Bucs with career-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds, adding three assists and three steals. Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) scored 17 points, and Casey scored 14.

Dedrick led the Chargers with 24 points. Ronnie Mack added 18, and Greg Gardner scored 12 with seven assists.

The Chargers shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) for the game, including 48 percent (12-of-25) from three-point range. The Bucs shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) and 30.3 percent (10-of-33) from three-point range. CBU out-rebounded UAH 35-31, including a 16-7 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 11 UAH turnovers while committing 10.

The Bucs wrap up their 2013 schedule Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they visit West Alabama. Their next home game is Saturday, Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. as they host Shorter.
