Bucs, Wolf Pack Split Twinbill

Jarrett Jenkins scored three runs in the Bucs' 8-6 win over Loyola in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader split.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs dropped a 3-1 extra-inning decision in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Loyola (La.), but they rallied to win the nightcap 8-6.

In the opener, the Bucs (2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, when Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) singled and scored on a throwing error.  Poor defense blew the chance in the seventh for the Bucs, as a pair of errors allowed the tying run to score with two out, and the Bucs couldn't capitalize on a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning, sending the game to extra innings.

In the eighth, the Wolf Pack (4-9) scored twice on two walks, two singles, and an error to claim the victory, spoiling a stellar debut from Jack Parker (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy), who went six and a third innings allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks.  Burnett paced the Bucs' offense with two hits.

A four-run third inning put the Bucs on top in the nightcap.  Each team scored once in the opening frame, with CBU scoring when Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) laid down a leadoff bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  He stole third and scored when the throw to third was wild.

Loyola regained the lead in the second inning when they scored one run on a walk, an error, and a pair of groundouts.  CBU sent eight batters to the plate in the third, scoring four runs on three hits, two errors, and a walk.  After Loyola shaved a run off the lead in the fourth, the Bucs added two more when Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) blasted a two-run pinch-hit double to right-center.

Each team scored once in the fifth, with Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) scoring the Bucs' run after he singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored when he stole third and the throw went into left field.

The Wolf Pack threatened in the sixth, scoring twice on four walks and a hit batter, but a flyout to center ended the threat and the game was called due to darkness.

Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two runs in the nightcap.  Jenkins scored three runs, and Goodwin scored twice.

The Bucs return to action Saturday at noon as they host Drury for a non-conference doubleheader.
