Graham Shoots Bucs By No. 22 Lions 87-73

Pat Graham scored a career-high 31 points, knocking down nine three-pointers, to lead the Bucs to an 87-73 win at No. 22 North Alabama Thursday night.
Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.--Senior forward Pat Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio, Bowling Green HS) made nine three-pointers and scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Christian Brothers University Bucs to an 87-73 win at No. 22 North Alabama Thursday night.

Graham wasted no time putting his stamp on the game, scoring 11 points during a 31-13 CBU (13-6, 8-3 GSC) run to open the game, knocking down three three-pointers and capping the run with a layup with 3:46 remaining in the first half.

The Lions (16-4, 9-3) closed within 12 points late in the first half, but an 8-2 burst early in the second half capped by another Graham triple put the Bucs on top 45-24 with 17:18 remaining.  The Bucs led by as many as 24 points before UNA cut the deficit to 10 points in the final minutes, but CBU made 12 of 14 free throws in the final two minutes to salt away the victory.

Graham set his career-high for the second straight game, after scoring 20 in Saturday's win over Delta State.  He finished the game 10-of-18 overall, including 9-of-16 from three-point range.  His nine three-pointers rank second in school history, two behind the record set by Tim Stock Feb. 15, 1988, against Freed-Hardeman.  Graham finished tied for 11th in GSC history for three-pointers in a game.  Three players share the GSC mark of 11, most recently West Alabama's Alquan Mendenhall in 2010-11.  Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) scored 18 points, making 3-of-4 three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws.  Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) and Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) added 11 each, while Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) hauled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Rashaun Claiborne led the Lions with 14 points.  Wes Long scored 11, and Bruce Adams and Tyler Pritchard added 10 each.

The Bucs shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) for the game overall, including 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from three-point range.  They were a sterling 85.7 percent (24-of-28) at the charity stripe.  The Lions shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) for the game but just 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from three-point range and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) at the free throw line.  The Bucs out-rebounded UNA 41-35, but the Lions held a 17-13 edge in offensive rebounds and forced 15 CBU turnovers while committing 10.

With the win, the Bucs move to 8-3 in GSC play, a half-game out of second place in the GSC standings, trailing No. 9 Alabama-Huntsville (10-2) and North Alabama (9-3).

The Bucs hit the road Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. to take on Union.  Their next home game is set for Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. against No. 9 Alabama-Huntsville.
