Hawks Edge Bucs 2-1 in Double-OT

Matt Derise scored the game's first goal, but the Bucs dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision at Shorter Sunday afternoon.
Box Score ROME, Ga.–Host Shorter claimed a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play.

Matt Derise (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More HS) opened the scoring for the Bucs (2-4-0, 1-3-0 GSC), finding the net off a cross from Carlos Meza Amador (Tampico, Mexico/IEST Valles) in the 29th minute. Five minutes later, Shorter (4-1-1, 4-0-0 GSC) scored the equalizer as Irvin Espinal scored unassisted.

The game remained level until Shorter's Robert Ochieng scored in the 109th minute, with just 1:13 remaining in the second overtime, to give Shorter the victory.

The Hawks out-shot CBU 22-16 for the game, with both teams taking six shots on goal. Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made four saves in goal for the Bucs.

The Bucs visit Union Friday night at 7 p.m. before returning home to take on Alabama-Huntsville Sunday afternoon, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m.
