MEMPHIS–Three different players scored as the Christian Brothers University Bucs won 4-0 over visiting Dallas Baptist Saturday afternoon at SIgnaigo Field.
The Bucs (1-1) opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Michael Hollier (Lafayette, La./Teurlings HS) tracked down a loose ball near the goal line. He fed a cross to Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) at the top of the six-yard box, and Ferraz fired a shot past the keeper to give the Bucs the only goal they would need.
In the 24th minute, Ferraz converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the season to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Bucs used their speed to score two goals just 87 seconds apart in the second half to put it out of reach. Jarrian Cutrer (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) fed a throughball to Paul Banks (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), who scored one-on-one against the keeper in the 70th minute. In the 71st minute, Neil Cummings (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Malachy's College) played a long ball ahead to Matt Derise (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More HS), who chipped a shot over the DBU goalkeeper for another goal to set the final margin at 4-0.
For the game, the Bucs out-shot DBU (1-1) 18-7, including a 10-0 edge in shots on goal. DBU goalkeeper Chuck Schober made six saves.
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) picked up the shutout for the Bucs.
The Bucs return to action Friday night at 7:30 p.m. as they open GSC play against West Florida.
