Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga.-Host Valdosta State used an 11-0 run early in the first half to take control en route to an 84-65 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday night.
David Murray capped the run for the Blazers (11-5, 5-5 GSC), giving them an 18-8 lead with 13:13 remaining in the half. The Bucs (9-7, 5-5) never came closer than eight points again, and the Blazers led by as many as 25 points in the second half.
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) paced the Bucs with 15 points, and
Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) and
Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) scored a dozen each.
Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) added five.
Murray logged game-highs of 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, making 12-of-14 field goals including 6-of-8 from three-point range. Blake Justice added 11.
The Blazers shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) for the game, including 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from three-point range. The Bucs shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) overall and a season-low 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from three-point range. VSU out-rebounded the Bucs 36-33, but CBU had a 14-11 edge in offensive boards and each team committed six turnovers.
The Bucs open the second half of the GSC schedule at home Thursday night at 7 p.m. as they host Alabama-Huntsville.
