Bucs Shoot Down Hawks 79-55

Cory McArthy scored 19 points as the Bucs won 79-55 at Shorter Thursday night.
Box Score ROME, Ga.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs led wire to wire Thursday night as they cruised to a 79-55 win at Shorter to earn their third straight win and their eighth in the last 10 games.

The Bucs (12-7, 8-5 GSC) opened the game with a 7-1 burst and never allowed Shorter (8-11, 5-8) back into the game. A 10-2 run later in the half lifted them to a 22-11 lead on a Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) layup with 11:53 remaining, and an 8-0 spurt just before halftime extended the lead to 40-22 on a Charlie Oswald (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) triple with 2:08 remaining in the first half. The Hawks never came closer than 14 points again, with CBU leading by as many as 26 points in the second half.

McArthy paced the Bucs with 19 points, while Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) tacked on 17 with nine rebounds. Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 16 with six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) added 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) scored nine points with nine rebounds before fouling out in 27 minutes.

Jordan Jacks led the Hawks with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Travis Jones scored 11 with four assists.

The Bucs shot over 50 percent from the floor for the sixth time in seven games as they were 53.7 percent (29-of-54) for the game while holding the Hawks to just 34.6 percent (18-of-52). The Bucs out-rebounded Shorter 39-29, including an an 11-10 edge in offensive rebounds. CBU also forced 12 turnovers while committing nine.

The Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they visit West Georgia. Their next home game is Homecoming, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. against Lee.
