Wolves Hold off Bucs 68-61

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga.-Host West Georgia led for all but the first four minutes of a 68-61 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon, snapping the Bucs' winning streak at three games.

The Bucs (12-8, 8-6 GSC) took early leads of 4-0 and 6-3, but the Wolves (15-7, 7-6) answered with a 10-2 run and never relinquished the lead. UWG pushed its lead to double-digits once in the first half and again midway through the second half, taking a 46-32 lead on a Lavon Gray fastbreak layup with 12:22 remaining.

The Bucs went on a 15-2 run to trim the deficit to 48-47 on a Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) layup with 6:23 remaining, but a 14-4 UWG run put it away, giving them a 62-51 lead with just 1:20 remaining, and the Bucs could come no closer than five points again.

Casey led the Bucs with a game-high 25 points, while Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) tacked on 15 with seven rebounds. Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) dished out a game-best nine assists to go with seven rebounds and a pair of steals.

Deonta Stocks and Phillip Flowers scored 18 each for the Wolves, with Flowers hauling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Thomas Higginbotham and Stephan Thompson added 12 each.

The Bucs shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) for the game to the Wolves' 41.1 percent (23-of-56). UWG shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from beyond the arc while limiting the Bucs to 25 percent (5-of-20). UWG out-rebounded the Bucs 36-35, and they forced 15 CBU turnovers while committing 12.

The Bucs close out their three-game road trip Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. as they visit first-place Delta State. Their next home game is Saturday, Feb. 15, when they host Lee for Homecoming at 4 p.m.
