Bucs Blitz Blazers 90-73

Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs opened the game with a 23-2 over the first six minutes as they cruised to a 90-73 win over Valdosta State Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Canale Arena.

The Bucs (16-10, 12-8 GSC) made nine of their first 11 shots, scoring the game's first 19 points as they jumped to the 23-2 lead on Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) layup with 14:11 remaining in the half. The Blazers (15-11, 9-11) never came closer than 11 points again.

After the Bucs extended their lead to 50-23 on a Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) three-pointer with 2:30 remaining in the first half, VSU used a 19-3 run to pull within 53-42 on a Blake Justice triple. But the Bucs answered with a 16-2 run of their own, capped by a Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triple that gave them a 69-44 lead with 12:28 remaining. VSU never came closer than 17 points again.

Hildreth scored 20 of his 23 points, matching his career-high in scoring to go with a game-best 11 rebounds. Casey scored 21, matching Hildreth's 9-of-11 shooting performance from the floor. Each was 1-of-2 at the free throw line, with Hildreth a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range to Casey's 2-of-4. Green scored 12, while Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) and Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) added 10 each. Fleming dished out a game-high nine assists.

Justice led the Blazers with 19 points, Jeremy McKay scored 18, followed by 16 by Larry Stone and 11 from David Murray.

The Bucs shot 58.9 percent (33-of-56) for the game, including 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range. They held VSU to 48.4 percent (30-of-62). CBU out-rebounded VSU 32-29 and forced 14 VSU turnovers while committing 10.

CBU honored their two seniors, Green and McArthy, before the game.

The Bucs advance to next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament at the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. They will play Friday night at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of tonight's game between Alabama-Huntsville and North Alabama.
