Memphis Uses Second Half Run to Pull Away From Bucs

Box Score MEMPHIS - Memphis used a 20-3 run over an eight minute span, in the second half, to pull way for an 86-53 win over the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team, on Thursday night at Fed Ex Forum. The exhibition contest marked the first game for CBU head coach John T. Reilly

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the opening stages Memphis took a 20-11 lead, but the Bucs answered with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 22-20 with 10:24 left in the half.
  • The Tigers hit a pair of free throws to take a 42-33 lead into halftime. 
  • Memphis finished the opening 20 minutes 16-of-31 (51.6) from the floor, while the Bucs were 12-for-33 (36.4). 
  • Daryl Lewis led CBU with nine first half points. 
  • After a pair of free throws by Nick Deifel, with 18:30 left, the Tigers went on a 20-3 run to take a comfortable 64-40 lead.
  • During the run, CBU was held without a field goal for over eight minutes. 
  • Jacob Lyons scored six of the final 10 points, for CBU, to close the game.
KEY STATS:
  • The Bucs outrebounded the Tigers 40-36, including a 15-6 edge in offensive boards. 
  • Deifel posted a double-double, leading the Bucs with 14 points and a game high 10 rebounds. 
  • Lyons (10) was the only other CBU player to score in double digits. Lewis finished the contest with nine points.
  • Lewis wreaked havoc on the defensive end, as he recorded three steals. 
  • Aiden Ruthsatz filled the stat sheet with five points, six boards, two assists and a steal.  
  • The Bucs shot 27.4 percent (17-62) for the game, including 20.8 percent (5-24) from three-point range. Memphis was 29-of-60 (48.3 percent), including 32.1 percent (9-28) from beyond the arc.
  • Memphis forced 22 turnovers, turning them into a 27 points.
UP NEXT:
  • The Bucs are scheduled to begin the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 when they travel to Central State (Ohio). Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
