BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University men's soccer team saw
Paul Bobai and
Marco Osti named to the 2022 Gulf South Conference Top Newcomers list, and was picked to finish sixth in the Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the league on Thursday, Aug. 11.
Bobai comes to CBU after transferring from NCAA Division I institution USC Upstate, where he appeared in 26 games, scoring one goal with six assists. The Zaria, Nigeria native set a program record with three assists in a 5-0 victory over UNC Ashville (10.30.21).
Osti arrives in Memphis from Trento, Italy, where he played as a midfielder for five different clubs.
CBU returns three of its four leading goal scorers from its 2021 team that appeared in the GSC Tournament, including
Caleb Tammi, who finished with seven goals and three assists. The Bucs also return goalkeeper
Wayne Davis, who has started 30 games in his career. The Bucs also return defenders
Brian Torre, and
Alvaro Martinez. Torre logged nearly 1500 minutes in his debut season, while Martinez has 29 appearances in his career.
The Bucs are scheduled to open their season on Thursday, Aug. 25, when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Great American Conference foe Ouachita Baptist.
