BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University baseball team had junior transfer
Dalton Pyzer and freshmen
Charlie Faoro and
Jackson Sleeper named to the 2023 Gulf South Conference Top Newcomers list, and was picked to finish 13th in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
Pyzer comes to CBU after spending the last two full seasons at Volunteer State Community College, where he hit .293, with 24 doubles, 18 home runs and 77 RBIs in 93 career contests. The Franklin, Tenn., native had 12 doubles and smacked 10 home runs last season.
Faoro, a pitcher/outfielder, arrives in Memphis after a decorated career at Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School (Ill.).
Sleeper prepped at Grace Christian Academy (Franklin, Tenn.), where he was named Pitcher of the Year following his senior campaign. Sleeper also helped guide his team to the Division II Class A State Tournament.
CBU returns six starters, including three of its five leading hitters, and three of its top four pitchers from its 2022 team.
The Bucs are scheduled to open their season on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host Brescia (Ky.) for a three-game non-conference series.
