Wistokat Earns Prestigious Academic All-America Honor

AUSTIN, Texas – Christian Brothers University track and field/cross country student-athlete Johanna Wistokat has been named First Team Academic All-America, as announced by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), on Wednesday. Wistokat is the 10th CSC Academic All-America selection in school history, and the fourth in the last three years.

Wistokat, who also earned second team honors last year, is one of just 15 NCAA Division II track and field/cross country student-athletes to earn the honor. She is also the first CBU women's student-athlete to earn CSC First Team Academic All-America honors in school history, and the first CBU student-athlete to earn first team honors since Trey Casey (2015).

The 2022-23 Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Wistokat, who has a 4.0 GPA in the Master of Science in Data Science program, is just the second women's track and field/cross country student-athlete to earn CSC First Team Academic All-America honors in Gulf South Conference history (Cheyenne Thompson - Montevallo - 2016-17).

The Wennigsen, Germany native wrapped up a stellar campaign that saw her become the Gulf South Conference and NCAA South Region cross country champion. Wisokat ended her cross country career by earning All-American honors with a 30th place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

For the second straight year, Wistokat was also named to the GSC Top 10, making her one of five female finalists for the prestigious GSC Commissioners Trophy.

To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America distinction, nominees must have reached at least sophomore academic standing, a starter or important reserve, with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
