TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Christian Brothers University men's and women's tennis teams competed in the Gulf South Conference Fall Individual Championships this past Friday and Saturday at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. Both teams showcased strong efforts, including first-time victories and individual standout performances.
The men's team secured 6th place in overall singles, surpassing teams like UWA, Montevallo, and AUM. They also ranked 6th in average finish by flight, ahead of DSU, AUM, and UWA.
Notable individual achievements:
- Tristian Kelly: 3rd place in Flight 4
- Ben Hanriot: 5th place in Flight 3
First-time GSC victories were achieved by:
- Tristian Kelly: Wins against AUM and Lee
- Ebo Nwokolum: Wins against UWF and Valdosta
- Alexandre Randoux: Victory against UWF
- Ot Diaz: Victory against Montevallo
- Miguel Perez: Victory against Montevallo
The team was led by veterans Juan Ycaza, Nacho Mora, and Pedro Gomez, delivering their best-ever finish in the GSC tournament.
The women's team tied for 8th place in overall singles.
Key performances:
- Sofia Zemtsova: After a tough tiebreaker loss to Valdosta, she rebounded with a win against Delta State.
- Fernanda Garcia: Earned her first GSC win against UWA.
- Neha Dandu: Defeated UWA.
- Valerie Neumann and Raheen Taranum showed great resilience, forcing tiebreakers against Valdosta, UWA, and MC.
The CBU men's and women's tennis teams will now prepare for the spring season of competition.
