Three Bucs win their flights at Mid-South Fall Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University tennis competed in the Mid-South Fall Invitational at the Adams Tennis Complex this past Friday and Saturday. Three Buccaneers won their singles flights and one CBU pairing won their doubles bracket.

Sophomore Sofia Zemtsova won the women's singles Flight A by defeating three opponents from Division I programs. She knocked off players from Southeast Missouri and Middle Tennessee on her way to becoming champion of singles Flight A for the second-straight year at the annual tournament.

Men's tennis won both singles Flight B and singles Flight C. Pedro Gomez defeated Tennessee Southern's Felipe Dias to claim the singles Flight B title. Emilain Zavala faced teammate Ot Diaz in the singles Flight C final and came out on top (6-4, 6-4).

In doubles play, the men's team won Flight B. Freshmen Alexandre Randoux and Ot Diaz defeated two other CBU pairings to emerge victorious. Meanwhile, sophomores Benjamin Hanriot and Tristian Kelly were finalists in doubles Flight A.

Junior Juan Ycaza made the finals of singles Flight A while Hanriot won the consolation bracket for singles Flight A.

The Christian Brothers tennis teams will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the GSC Individual Fall Championships on Oct. 18-19 next.
