BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Three of Christian Brothers University's men's soccer players earned weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference for their performances in 1-0 and 2-0 wins over Lee and Trevecca Nazarene, respectively.
Alexander Blanche (New Orleans, La.) was named GSC Player of the Week,
George Chandler (Southampton, England) was dubbed GSC Defensive Player of the Week and Vicent Sanchis Olmedo (Valencia, Spain) was crowned GSC Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season.
Player of the Week
Alexander Blanche, Jr., F, Christian Brothers
Blanche earned his first GSC Player of the Week honor this season after registering two goals and eight shots overall to help the Buccaneers extend their unbeaten match streak. The junior began the week on the offensive against Lee as he recorded four shots overall, including two shots on net, and helped to break a scoreless match in the 80
th-minute with his fifth goal of the season to give Christian Brothers the win. This was then followed up by his sixth goal of the season in the 48
th-minute as he helped the Buccaneers to prevail against Trevecca Nazarene by a score of 2-0.
Defensive Player of the Week
George Chandler, Sr., D, Christian Brothers
Chandler was part of a Buccaneers backline that did not concede a single goal and helped Christian Brothers to extend its unbeaten streak to ten matches. Against Lee, the senior attempted one shot, but primarily made his impact felt defensively as Christian Brothers recorded a tight 1-0 win. He then followed this up with a shot on net and an assist on the Bucs' second goal of the match while also helping to only allow three shots on net in a 2-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Vicent Sanchis Olmedo, Gr., GK, Christian Brothers
Sanchis Olmedo won his third GSC Goalkeeper of the Week award this season after two shutout victories, two clean sheets, and nine saves. The graduate started the week with an active match against Lee where he conceded no goals, made six saves on 16 shots faced, and recorded his first clean sheet in a 1-0 win. He then recorded his second clean sheet of the week while making three saves on nine shots faced and, once again, not allowing a single goal as Christian Brothers shutout Trevecca Nazarene by a score of 2-0. Sanchis Olmedo now has six clean sheets on the year and has yet to allow more than one goal in 12 appearances for the Bucs.
