CBU Tennis wins 19-of-26 singles matches at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University men's and women's tennis teams were hosted by Rhodes College at Leftwich Tennis Center for a three-day tournament that wrapped up on Wednesday. The Buccaneers won 19-of-26 singles matches against the Lynx.

The CBU women's tennis team played two separate sets to eight points and won 8-of-10 matchups. Sofia Zemtsova, Raheen Taranum and Valerie Neumann all went 2-0 in their matchups. Meanwhile, freshman Fernanda Garcia Galvez won her first collegiate tennis match.

The Buccaneer men's tennis team played full matches on Tuesday and Wednesday. Christian Brothers dropped three out of the first four singles matches played on Tuesday, but rallied to win the last four matches to come out on top, 5-3. Tristian Kelly, a transfer, and Ernesto Pico, a freshman, both notched their first win as Bucs. Additionally, Bruno Moreira teamed up with Emilian Zavala and Andres Andrade to win a pair of doubles matches by a 6-3 margin.

On Wednesday, the CBU men's tennis team won 6-of-8 singles matches and split doubles sets with Rhodes. Ebo Nwokolo and Alexandre Randoux both picked up their first wins as Bucs. Nwokolo and Ignacio Mora both battled to win their singles matches in third sets.

Christian Brothers men's and women's tennis will host an invitational tournament at the Leftwich Tennis Center on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 next.
