CBU Cross Country starts 2024 season strong

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University men's and women's cross country teams competed in invitational meets hosted by Harding and Rhodes last Friday and this Saturday, respectively. Both teams finished in third place at the Harding Invitational. The men's team placed seventh at the Rhodes Invitational while the women's team finished 12th in a highly-competitive field of 19 teams.  

HARDING INVITATIONAL

The CBU women's cross country team combined for a time of 1:46:04 in the 5K race. The Lady Buccaneers finished behind only Division I Little Rock and the host of the tournament, Harding. Freshman Lauren Blyth led Christian Brothers with a time of 20:19.4. She was the 15th finisher of the race. 

Sophomore Annaggeliki Zannetou was not far behind Blythe with a time of 20:47.5 that was good enough for 17th place. Senior Sonia Chavelas (21:00.6) and sophomore Isabella Zurita (21:04.0) also finished in the top 20.

The CBU men's cross country team totaled a time of 1:46:05 in the four mile race. The Bucs trailed only the tournament hosts, Harding, and Division I Little Rock in that order. Two of Christian Brothers' runners finished in the top 10. Senior Anton Lindberg set a new personal record of 20:09.2 to come in 7th place. Meanwhile, junior Ethan Ackroyd crossed the finish line in 20:16.9 to place ninth. 

RHODES INVITATIONAL

The Christian Brothers men's cross country team came in seventh place out of 18 teams. The Buccaneers were led by Lindberg (26:15.86) and Ackroyd (26:22.75) again who finished in 14th and 16th place respectively. Junior Joseph Arriaga (26:42.43) also completed the 8K race in under 27 minutes.

The Christian Brothers women's cross country team placed 12th in the 6K race that included 19 teams. Blyth crossed the finish line in 25:10.71 to record the fastest time for CBU. Junior Meghan Turner also ran at a good pace and turned in a time of 26:08.98.

The CBU cross country teams will run at The University of Alabama in Huntsville's invitational meet on Saturday, Oct. 12 next.
