St. Louis, Mo. – Christian Brothers University men's soccer battled hard but came up short in a 2–1 road loss to Missouri–St. Louis Friday afternoon at Don Dallas Field.
UMSL struck first in the 17th minute and in the 55th minute.
The Buccaneers refused to back down. Olivier van der Tuin broke through the defense on a 1v1 opportunity created by Juan Minguez Malonda, calmly slotting it past the UMSL keeper to pull CBU within one.
Christian Brothers pressed late, recording eight total shots and four corner kicks in the match, but could not find the equalizer. The Buccaneers' back line and keeper Elio Nello Pierre Reggiani kept the game within reach, with Reggiani making a key first-half save.
Discipline was a major factor, with the teams combining for 17 fouls and 10 yellow cards. CBU saw cautions issued to Omarion Velasquez and Ethan Shanahan, while UMSL had seven players booked.
With the result, CBU moves to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play, while Missouri–St. Louis improves to 2-2-4, 1-1-3.
The Buccaneers will look to bounce back in their next match as they continue conference play on the road
