New Faces, New Opportunities: CBU Women's Basketball Set to Begin 2026–27 Season

Lady Buccaneers open season Thursday at UT Martin with a revamped roster and renewed expectations

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A new season brings a new beginning for the Christian Brothers University women's basketball program as the Lady Buccaneers prepare to tip off the 2026–27 campaign with a revamped roster, a challenging schedule and an opportunity to establish a new identity.

Under head coach Samantha Davidson, CBU enters the season with a combination of returning players, incoming transfers and freshmen looking to make an immediate impact. After finishing the 2025–26 campaign with a 3–25 overall record and an 0–22 mark in Gulf South Conference play, the Lady Buccaneers are focused on turning the page and building a stronger foundation.

The new-look roster features 21 student-athletes, bringing together players from across the United States and internationally. With several new faces joining a smaller group of returners, developing chemistry, establishing leadership and learning to compete together will be essential to the team's growth.

Among the returning players expected to play an important role is junior guard Mya Bourget, who will wear No. 9 for the Lady Buccaneers.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native brings valuable collegiate experience and familiarity with the program. During the 2025–26 season, Bourget appeared in 20 games and made 11 starts, averaging 6.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest.

Alongside Bourget, returning contributors Teuila Faalogo, Anastasija Cernova and Amani Lipscomb provide additional collegiate experience. Faalogo averaged 4.5 rebounds per game last season, while Cernova appeared in 27 contests, giving the Lady Buccaneers experienced options as they establish their rotation.

A Challenging New Schedule

The 2026–27 schedule presents a different opening challenge than the previous season.

Last year, CBU began its regular-season schedule against Lynn University and Barry University in Boca Raton, Florida, as part of the GSC-SSC Crossover Tournament.

This season, the Lady Buccaneers begin with consecutive road matchups against NCAA Division I opponents, traveling to UT Martin on November 5 before visiting Western Kentucky on November 8.

The early tests will provide opportunities for CBU's newcomers to experience a higher level of competition while allowing the coaching staff to evaluate the team's progress against challenging opponents.

The nonconference schedule also includes road trips to Missouri S&T, Southwest Baptist and Henderson State, along with home contests against Oklahoma Christian, Arkansas-Monticello and LeMoyne-Owen.

CBU will make its home debut on November 24 against Oklahoma Christian at Canale Arena.

Gulf South Conference play begins December 3 at Delta State, followed by a December 5 matchup at Mississippi Christian. The Lady Buccaneers return home December 10 to face Lee before hosting Trevecca Nazarene on December 12.

The regular season is scheduled to conclude February 26 when CBU welcomes Union University to Canale Arena.

A Big Opportunity on ESPN+

Before turning its attention to conference competition, CBU will have an opportunity to make an early statement when it travels to Martin, Tennessee, to face UT Martin on Thursday, November 5.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center, with the contest listed for streaming on ESPN+.

For a team featuring several newcomers, opening the season against an NCAA Division I opponent offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience, build confidence and compete on a larger stage.

The 2026–27 campaign offers a fresh start, and Thursday's matchup against UT Martin marks the first opportunity for this new group to begin writing its own chapter in Christian Brothers women's basketball history.
