Memphis, TN- Before the season began, Head Coach Giovanni Plater made the vision clear for Christian Brothers University Tennis. The program would take a different approach in preparation, emphasizing discipline, purpose, and full buy-in to a clear game plan. The expectation is to compete at a high level every match.
The season goal is simple but ambitious: qualify for the conference tournament with a higher seed than in previous seasons.
Several players are expected to lead the way. On the men's side, senior Juan Ycaza and junior Justin Martin are players to watch. For the women, senior Neha Dandu and junior Valerie Neumann are poised to make a strong impact this year.
That vision quickly turned into results.
In his first victories as CBU's head coach, both the men's and women's teams delivered statement performances. The women's team earned a 6-2 win over Cumberland University, competing with confidence and closing out key matches.
The men followed with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Blue Mountain University. From doubles to singles, the Buccaneers controlled the action and secured a complete team victory.
After the milestone wins, Coach Plater reflected on the moment.
"I am proud of the way we competed. This is a step, not the destination. We're building something. We were able to take the weekend off and enjoy it. Back to work."
His message was clear. The first wins are exciting, but the work is just beginning. A new era of CBU Tennis has officially started.
