MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University has entrusted the future of its baseball program to a familiar face, promoting Andrew Sharp to head coach after serving as an assistant coach. The move rewards years of dedication to the program and places one of the Gulf South Conference's rising young coaches at the helm.

Sharp assumes leadership of the Buccaneers after spending the past five seasons coaching at the NCAA Division II level, including valuable experience in the Gulf South Conference, widely regarded as one of the premier conferences in Division II baseball. During that time, he learned under several respected and accomplished coaches while continuing to develop his own coaching philosophy centered on accountability, player development, and winning.

A former Division II student-athlete himself, Sharp understands the demands of competing at one of the nation's highest levels. That perspective has shaped his approach to coaching and mentoring student-athletes.

As an assistant coach, Sharp's primary responsibility was player development. While his specialty was working with catchers, his impact extended throughout the pitching staff, assisting with bullpen sessions and pitcher development. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers' pitching staff continued to make strides, posting a 4.50 team ERA while emphasizing preparation, execution, and consistency on the mound.

Beyond the technical aspects of the game, Sharp has built a reputation for teaching student-athletes to compete the right way.

"My focus has always been helping our players develop, both on and off the field," Sharp said. "Doing the right things every day leads to success. We want to build a culture where our players compete for each other and focus on winning."

Now leading the program, Sharp plans to continue that philosophy while surrounding himself with experienced coaches who can help the Buccaneers compete immediately.

"I want to add some veteran pieces to our coaching staff," Sharp said. "We want coaches who have been through it and understand what it takes to win. Our goal is to build something that can compete right away."

Sharp believes the current roster provides a strong foundation for the future.

"I like what we have," he said. "We have a group that's willing to work. We'll continue to add a few pieces, especially on the mound, and look for players who bring a winning culture and competitive mindset."

His vision for the program is rooted in hard work and development.

"Development is key," Sharp said. "You can't be afraid to get dirty. Nothing comes easy. If you're willing to put in the work every single day, the results will come."

Despite becoming one of the youngest head coaches in the Gulf South Conference, Sharp embraces the opportunity with humility and gratitude.

"I'm thankful. I thank God for this opportunity," Sharp said. "It's a blessing, and I don't take it lightly. It's rare to be given an opportunity like this at my age in this conference."

While the road ahead will require continued growth and development, Sharp's expectations remain simple.

"My number one goal is to win," he said. "Everything we do, from recruiting to player development to the culture we build, is about putting Christian Brothers Baseball in a position to compete for championships."

With a familiar leader, a clear vision, and a commitment to developing championship-caliber student-athletes, the next chapter of Buccaneer baseball begins under Andrew Sharp's leadership.
