MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs wrapped up the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament as they tied West Georgia 1-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (10-6-2, 4-2-2 GSC) finish in third place with 10 points in GSC play, and they will face second-seeded Montevallo at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla., in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Wolves (8-6-3, 3-3-2) struck first in the 26th minute as Cydney Raymond scored her sixth goal of the year when she won a loose ball and dribbled into the box for the score.
The Lady Bucs found the equalizer from a familiar face in the 73rd minute as
Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavík, Iceland/Menntaskolinn vid Hamrahlid) scored her 22nd goal after receiving a lead pass from
Marie Kvarnlof (Östersund, Sweden/Wargentins School). Neither team could find the net over the final 37 minutes as the game ended in a double-overtime draw. Svavarsdottir's 22 goals are sixth-most in school history for a season, and she is in eighth place on the career leaderboard with 30 in her two seasons.
The Lady Bucs were out-shot 12-4 for the day, though shots on goal were even at 4-4.
Libby Hake (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS) made three saves for the Lady Bucs.
With the tie, West Georgia wins the fourth seed and the right to play No. 2 West Florida at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The semifinal winners will meet at 11:00 a.m. Sunday for the championship.
