Tigers Edge Bucs 64-62 in Final Seconds

Reggie Peyton scored a game-high 23 points, but the Bucs lost 64-62 to Olivet Nazarene Saturday night.
Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—A Tyler Wallenfang jumper with 21 seconds remaining lifted Olivet Nazarene to a 64-62 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday night in the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic.

Wallenfang, who scored a team-high 20 for the Tigers (3-4), broke a 62-all tie in the final seconds, and the Bucs (3-1) missed a shot on their final possession.

The Bucs struggled in the final minutes at the free throw line, making just two of their final seven free throws in the last 10 minutes.  They were just 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) overall for the game, compared to the Tigers' 15-of-18 (83.3 percent).

Early on, the Bucs looked like they would roll to a fourth straight win, jumping out to an 11-2 lead in the first four and a half minutes.  But Olivet Nazarene would go on a 34-14 run over the next 14 minutes to take an 11-point lead just before halftime on a Wallenfang layup.

The Bucs cut the lead quickly in the second half, keeping the score within five points for the final 13 minutes, as the game saw six ties and nine lead changes.

Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Bucs with 23 points and was the only CBU player in double figures.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS), Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS), Brandon Shane (Greenfield, Tenn./Greenfield HS), and Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) scored eight points each, while Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) scored seven.  Dennis also grabbed a game-high and career-high seven rebounds in 27 minutes.

Wallenfang scored his 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including the game-winner, and he also made four of five free throws.  Tyler Baldwin was the only other Tiger in double figures with 10.

The Bucs will try to get back on the right track Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host Williams Baptist.
