Argos Outlast Bucs 3-0

Andrew Ballard took a pair of shots, but the Bucs dropped a 3-0 decision to West Florida Saturday afternoon.
COLLIERVILLE—Visiting West Florida scored three goals in the final 35 minutes as they remained in first place in the Gulf South Conference with a 3-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon at Collierville High School.

The Argos (7-4-1, 3-0 GSC) struck first in the 55th minute as Paul Willoughby scored on a loose ball in the box, winning a ball he and CBU (4-7-1, 1-1) keeper Harrison Cheatham (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) arrived at the ball nearly at the same time.

The Argos doubled the margin in the 77th minute as Richard Dixon fed a cross to Jay Mainville in the box, and he fired a shot into the left corner.  They tacked on the final goal with just 21 seconds remaining as Willoughby tacked on the final goal.

The Argos out-shot the Bucs 9-7, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.  Elliott Purdom made three saves for the Argos to earn the shutout.

The Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host Harding in a non-conference game.
