Strong Second Half Carries Bucs Again, 63-48

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo.—For the second straight game, a strong second-half performance carried the Christian Brothers University Bucs as they won 63-48 at Missouri-St. Louis Monday night.

The Bucs (9-3) took the lead with a 12-0 run midway through the first half and never trailed again.  The Tritons (7-2) led 10-4 after a Beaumont Beasley three-pointer with 13:09 remaining in the first half, but the Bucs answered with five straight layups as well as a Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) jumper to take a 16-10 lead with 6:44 remaining in the half.

The Bucs began to put the game away in the second half.  Back-to-back threes by Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) and Kevin Doran (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) pushed the lead to 40-28 with 10 minutes remaining, and after four straight points from Beasley, the Bucs went on a 16-7 run to put it away going into the final minutes.  Back-to-back fast-break layups by Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) and Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) capped the run to push the lead to 56-49 with just 2:36 to play.

Drake led the Bucs with 15, while Dennis had 13 points and nine rebounds.  Warner, playing in his hometown, scored 12 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists in 39 minutes, while Couvion added 11.

Beasley led the Tritons with 20 points, while Eddie White added 15.

The Bucs shot 47.8 percent (22-of-46) to the Tritons' 30.9 percent (17-of-55) and held a 35-34 edge on the boards despite UMSL's 14-8 lead in offensive rebounds.  CBU committed 11 turnovers while forcing just nine.

The Bucs head home for Christmas break before returning to the court at Canale Arena Monday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. against Mid-Continent.
