MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs split a pair of games Sunday afternoon, losing 10-4 to No. 25 St. Joseph's before winning 7-6 over Brescia.

The Pumas (3-0) jumped out to a lead quickly on their way to a sweep in the first game, scoring twice in the second inning after a walk, a double, and a pair of sacrifice flies.  They extended the lead to six runs in the fourth as they capitalized on two walks, a hit batter, a double, and two errors to score four times.

They scored three more times in the sixth before the Bucs (1-6) answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the sixth on a three-run pinch-hit homer by Chance Ruggeroli (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge HS) after Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) singled.  Both teams added another run in the seventh, with Kaminski scoring the Bucs' run as he scored on a Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) single after reaching on a one-out double.

Wright and Kaminski each went 3-for-5, while Caleb Burrow (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) added two hits.  John Romo (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) turned in a strong outing out of the bullpen, tossing 3.1 innings of relief and allowing one run on four hits.

Trouy helped the Bucs to a good start in the second game, launching a two-run double to center to score Wright and Kaminski in the first inning.  Burrow doubled the Bucs' lead an inning later as he hit a two-run homer to left.

After the Bearcats (1-4) scratched out two runs in the top of the third on a bunt single, three walks, and a sacrifice fly, the Bucs scored three to take a commanding 7-2 lead.  Wright and Kaminski started the inning with back-to-back doubles.  Will Britt (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) singled to left, and the Bucs scored two unearned runs on a pair of errors.

The Bearcats tightened the game in the sixth.  They started the inning with a walk and a Jared Votaw homer to cut the lead to 7-4.  They drew two more walks, and singles from David Roberts and Jon Troutman cut the lead to a single run, but Justin Hopper (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) slammed the door for his first save, striking out Steve Vasquez with two on and two out to end the sixth and then retiring the side in order in the seventh.

The game was called due to darkness after the top of the seventh inning.

Burrow went 2-for-3 to pace the Bucs' offense.  He and Trouy each drove in two runs, while Wright and Kaminski scored twice.  Mitch Porwoll (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian HS) earned his first win as he allowed two runs on four hits and six walks in five innings.  Hopper threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits.

The Bucs have a pair of home games scheduled this week.  They host Lambuth Tuesday at 1 p.m., and they take on LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday at 1 p.m.
