FLORENCE, Ala.—No. 12 North Alabama scored the first six runs and the last six runs as they rolled to a 12-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions (14-4) struck first in the second inning as Will Campbell singled, stole second, and scored on a Dewayne Gunn single. The Lions tacked on three an inning later as they capitalized on a walk, three singles, and a double. A two-run Collin Murphy single pushed the lead out to 6-0.
The Bucs (4-8) answered with a run in the fifth and one in the seventh, with
Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) scoring on a
Matt Stephany (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) single in the fifth and
David Clayton (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) driving in
Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) with a seventh-inning single.
Nine straight Lions reached to start the seventh, ending the game after the sixth run scored on a Qualon Millender single. The Lions had a hit batter, six singles, and two doubles in the inning.
Stephany went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the only Buc to post a multi-hit game, while Clayton,
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), and
Cody Dunn (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) each singled.
The Bucs will return to the field Sunday at noon as they host Principia in a non-conference doubleheader.
