MEMPHIS—Crichton scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 4-3 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The Comets struck first in the third inning as Blake Embrey hit a leadoff triple to center and scored on a David Ellison single.
The Bucs (6-12) tied the game in the top of the sixth, when
Will Britt (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and
David Clayton (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drove him in with a two-out single to center.
In the eighth, it was the Comets taking advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch to break the tie, with Embrey reaching on the hit batter. He moved to second on a wild pitch, and he scored on a Joel Pierce single.
The Bucs answered with two in the top of the ninth to retake the lead.
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) drew a leadoff walk and stole second. After
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on a walk, a passed ball moved them up to second and third, and a two-run
Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) single lifted the Bucs to a 3-2 advantage.
The Comets, however, used two walks, two errors, and a wild pitch to score the winning runs with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) went 3-for-5 for the Bucs, while Kaminski was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
